Beginnings
Sarah came to massage therapy and alternate medicine though her own journey of pain. A childhood injury, which was thought to be healed and moved on, had lingering lasting affects. During her early teenage years sports were a huge part of her life and she was a great student, but the painful headaches and blurring vision affected everything. The headaches would last for days, Sarah and her family turned to their doctor and modern medicine. Following the advice of her doctors she started the medication they prescribed; but it only numbed the pain, not the root of the issue. Seeing specialist monthly resulted in increasing the medication and adding more. The side effects of the medication caused so many other problems. Her grades plummeted, she couldn’t play sports anymore, and quality of life was only getting worse by the day. Sarah chose pain over medication, but the headaches were still there; there had to be another way.
Another Way
A family friend suggested a chiropractor. After a consultation and a set of x-rays, the first doctor to even take x-rays, the root cause of the issue could be seen plainly. There were vertebrates out of alinement in her neck pinching nerves. No amount of medication would be able to fix that. With weekly adjustments, adding in acupuncture and yoga, Sarahs’ body was brought back to balance and soon she was pain free! For the first time in years no pain, no medication, and no side effects! Alternative medicine saved Sarah from a life less vibrant, where she would have depended on medication for the rest of her life.
Her eyes were open to the fact there were other options.
Passion Turned Profession
Massage therapy became her path. Graduating from Kaplan College with a certificate of Holistic Health Practitioner in 2008. During school Sarah and her classmate toured a few spas and job opportunities, one of which was the Chopra Center. The Chopra Center specialized in Ayuvedic medicine and bodywork. Ayuvedia spoke to her, it made sense. But it was deep work that was done at the Center, Sarah wasn’t ready yet.
Starting at Massage Envy she worked full time to hone her craft, as her skills improved so did the job opportunities. After a few years of at a variety of day spa environments; Skinsational, and the Carlsbad Mineral Water Spa, where the focus was a day of pampering, Sarah was ready for something more. In 2012 with years of experience and confidence in her skills Sarah applied to The Chopra Center. Success as the Center welcomed her to the team! There she was immersed in Ayurvedic medicine; how the focus was the whole person, body mind soul, & deep inner emotional work. Sarah worked at The Chopra Center for Wellbeing until they closed in December 2019.
With The Center now closed Sarah decided to continue the work she did at the center on her own. She wants to support people in finding balance, what is wholesome and nourishing; for their bodies, mind, soul, & life. Discover Satmya is the new chapter of Sarahs’ journey. Hoping to share with people about their dosha (their unique constitution -the mind body type) that holds the keys to each persons individual needs.
